Looking back on some of our favourite projects from recent years, some of our most exciting projects have seen our developers get up close and personal with lions, tigers and bears!
If you’ve taken your family for a day out at the zoo this summer, the chances are that you’ve walked on Millboard decking, seen it used as cladding on the walls, or even used as decoration within an enclosure.
Chester Zoo specified Millboard’s Coppered Oak to give their walkways a naturalistic but durable look, and even used our Weathered Oak boards in their Komodo Dragon enclosure. The Komodo Dragon is the star attraction of the zoo’s ‘Dragons in Danger’ exhibit. Their specially designed herpetarium draws large daily crowds of visitors, keen to view the giant Indonesian lizards. Our boards fit in perfectly with the jungle aesthetic and cope well with the heavy footfall.
Equally, The Yorkshire Wildlife Park used our products extensively as wall and ceiling cladding, and as walkway flooring. The whole zoo was built from scratch five years ago, and Millboard worked directly with the zoo’s owners to provide beautiful and inspiring installations. Our decking was used most prominently within YWP’s star attraction: ‘Land of the Tigers’.
This enclosure houses endangered tigers, Vladimir, Sayan and Tschuna, and is the flagship experience of the zoo. The decking provides a suitably wild look whilst offering slip resistance to visitors and making maintenance easy for the staff.
We’re very proud of the resulting look of both attractions – next time you visit, keep your eye out for Millboard decking!
